The stage name is a starting point

Stage 1 and Stage 2 are commonly used tuning labels, not a universal engineering specification. Ask what the proposed calibration assumes about your particular car. At Midlands Tuning, Stage 1 typically works with a suitable existing hardware configuration; Stage 2 is matched to an agreed modified setup.

Stage 1: assess the existing car

Before considering extra performance, establish vehicle condition, software identification, previous tuning and drivetrain suitability. Existing fault codes, clutch slip, cooling problems or other symptoms need investigation. A calibration change cannot restore a worn component. Results vary by engine and configuration, so a model badge alone is not enough to quote exact gains.

Stage 2: define the hardware first

There is no single shopping list for every vehicle. Intake, cooling, exhaust or drivetrain considerations may differ by platform and intended goal. Agree exact component specifications and whether anything else is required before ordering parts. Stage 2 does not automatically mean emissions-control deactivation, and the £250 starting price does not include every possible service.

Agree the order of work

Midlands Tuning provides software only. Installation, component removal and mechanical repairs must be arranged separately. Depending on the agreed procedure, hardware work may be needed before or after the software change. Do not assume the vehicle is suitable to drive with a partly completed configuration; confirm the sequence with those carrying out the work.

Make the decision around your priorities

Explain the response, drivability or performance you want, your usual journeys and your existing modifications. Discuss modifications with your insurer and check the manufacturer’s warranty terms. For road use, a proposed setup must remain compliant with applicable requirements. A larger stage number alone does not establish that a change is right for your car.
